Gold Hits 7-Week Low, Silver At 15-Mo. Low, As Outside Markets Turn Bearish

Live 24 hours gold chart [Kitco Inc.]
Gold prices are trading solidly down and hit a seven-week low in late-morning action Friday. Meantime, silver prices are sharply lower and have notched a 15-month low. An upbeat U.S. employment report released two hours ago did not do the precious metals bulls any good. However, it's the key "outside markets" that have turned fully bearish today that have put the most pressure on gold and silver prices. The U.S. dollar index is holding good gains as midday approaches, while Nymex crude oil prices are sharply lower and have moved below $44.00 a barrel. It appears crude is headed back to test the June low of $42.05, basis August Nymex futures. Such would continue to invite selling interest in the precious metals markets. August gold was last down $9.20 an ounce at $1,214.10 and September silver futures were down $0.328 at $15.65.
